Men’s Tennis: Elon’s Silverman Earns At-Large Bid to USTA/ITA National Championships

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Following an impressive run at the ITA Carolina Regional earlier this month, Elon University men’s tennis standout Cameron Silverman has earned an at-large bid to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Nov. 8-11 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. Silverman is the first tennis player in Elon history to be selected to the prestigious 32-player national tournament.

“This is a great honor for Cameron and our program here at Elon,” said Phoenix head coach Michael Leonard. “Cam has worked extremely hard since arriving on campus two years ago and I am excited to see his hard work and dedication pay off.”

In the semifinals of the ITA Carolina Regional in Cary, N.C., earlier this month, Silverman earned one of the most important wins in program history when he topped the nation’s number one player, Henrique Cunha from Duke, in three sets (7-5, 3-6, 6-4) to advance to the singles championship match. During his run in Cary, Silverman went 5-1 with wins over the nation’s top-ranked and 55th-ranked player, as well as the country’s top freshman/newcomer. This fall, Silverman has tallied an 11-3 mark in singles action.

The USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships are hosted by Columbia University. The prestigious event features a 32-player singles draw and a 20-team doubles draw for men and women.
