Greensboro College Athletics Launches Turf Field Project

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) — The Greensboro College athletic department kicked off a campaign this week to turf Pride Field. Athletics Director Dan Cetrone introduced the project to members of the community, Board of Trustees, alumni, and college staff at the President’s Breakfast.

Pride Field, on the campus of Greensboro College, serves as the home for the college’s men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s lacrosse and women’s lacrosse teams. The installation of synthetic turf would provide a stable gameday environment, while allowing other athletics teams to practice on the field as well.

In addition to hosting athletics practices and events, the turf field can be available for student activities such as band practice, intramurals and other recreational activities. An artificial surface will allow all of these events to take place regardless of the weather.

As a result of having practices, intramurals and informal recreation take place on campus, the college expects an increase in campus vibrancy seen by families, prospective students, alumni and community guests.

Help us make a positive change in our students’ experience, and take a step with us to improving the legacy of Greensboro College.

What the coaches are saying:

Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach and Athletics Director Dan Cetrone: “I am so excited to be launching this plan. Our facilities have been unchanged for years and this will help us to move into a state of the art environment. AstroTurf is a great company and they are helping us to a top of the line product to help with the training, competition and safety of our athletes. Not only will this help our student athletes, I feel this field will help our students as a classroom, intramural facility and a place for our band to train at times also. When we are able to complete this project it will be an awesome day for Greensboro College and our athletics programs.”

Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach Rob Bickerstaff: “I cannot express enough how much I know this turf will change the dynamic of Greensboro College. Not only for the teams using the field for games, but for the entire campus and surrounding communities who will be able to use the field for non NCAA related activities.”

Head Men’s Soccer Coach John Trice: “Our program is very excited about the campaign announcement for creating a turf surface on Pride Field here on campus. This development is sure to positively impact Greensboro College athletics, student life on campus, and the community around us. I am confident that alumni, parents, and friends of Greensboro College will collectively put together their resources to make this project a reality very soon.”

Head Women’s Soccer Coach Ian Spooner: “Having a top notch turf field on campus will be a very important addition to our facilities. It will allow many of our sports to thrive by becoming a focal point for recruitment of quality student-athletes and also a place that traditional students can utilize and thus help increase enrollment at Greensboro College.”
