Greensboro College Men’s Soccer Drops Hard Fought USA South Championship Match

(MARTINSVILLE, V.A.) — The Greensboro College men’s soccer team came up just short of a USA South Championship on Saturday, falling to Methodist 1-0. The Pride battled to the end, with numerous looks on goal down the stretch after trailing 1-0 at the break.
Eirik Nordseth tallied the lone goal of the game in the 27th minute, taking advantage of a rebound opportunity following a diving save by Greensboro goalkeeper Manbi Nyepon.

The Pride stepped up the attack in the second half, accumulating six shots in the final 45 minutes. Despite only two being placed on goal, Greensboro had several near misses.

Some of the best looks came late in the game on free kick chances. George Dimompoulos narrowly missed bending a free kick into the upper right corner of the net from 30 yards out. Logan Paussa also created a few dangerous chances in the waning minutes.

Nyepon recorded another stellar performance in net with four saves on the day. For his efforts, Nyepon, along with Paussa, Jason Curfman and Drew Clukey were recognized on the USA South All-Tournament Team.

With the defeat, Greensboro concluded a successful season with an overall record of 11-5-4.
