College Volleyball News – Guilford’s Whitley Named Third Team All-ODAC

FOREST, Va. – Guilford College junior Taylor Whitley (China Grove, N.C./Jesse C. Carson) received All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) volleyball honors Monday. Whitley was named to the third team, according to a vote of the league’s head volleyball coaches.

Whitley, a 5-7 setter, led the Quakers with 614 assists during the 2012 season and ranked fourth in the league with 7.73 assists per set, which stands seventh in school history. In conference matches alone, she amassed 301 assists (7.52 assists per set), the ODAC’s third-best total. Whitley also led the Quakers with six double-doubles on the season. She had one of her best outings against Meredith College Oct. 4 when she totaled 45 assists and 19 digs in the Quakers’ five-set win.

Whitley set Guilford’s career assists record this year and enters her senior year with 2,087 assists. She also has 550 digs, 135 kills and 86 service aces in 83 matches as a Quaker.

Coach Emily Gann’s squad finished with a 9-18 overall record, 3-8 in the ODAC. Gann expects 12 letter winners back in 2013.
