GREENSBORO, N.C. — Guilford College’s men’s golf team slipped three spots to eighth place in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches’ Poll. The ratings are made by members of the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and will also be published in the Nov. 12 edition of Golf World.
Oglethorpe University maintained its top spot with nine of 13 first-place votes and 317 points. Methodist University is second with one first place vote and 299 points. The University of Texas-Tyler is third with 254 points, followed by Nebraska Wesleyan University (249 points) in fourth and Saint John’s (Minn.) University is fifth with 245 points.
The Quakers wrapped up their fall season with a ninth-place finish in the predominantly NCAA Division I Hummingbird Intercollegiate Nov. 3-4. Senior Noah Ratner led the way with a 74-69-143 that placed seventh in the 82-man field. He collected the Quakers’ third Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Golfer of the Week Award of the season for his efforts.
Ratner, the defending NCAA Division III Player of the Year according to the GCAA, leads the Quakers with a 73.67 stroke average through 12 rounds. He ranks second among ODAC golfers after the fall season. Sophomore Drew Thompson is second on the team with a 74.42 average, which stands fourth in the league.
Third-year head coach Corey Maggard’s squad is scheduled to start its spring season at the Pine Needles Intercollegiate Feb. 25-26 in Southern Pines, N.C.
