Greensboro College Women’s Basketball Dealt Season Opening Loss to Guilford

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) — The Pride women’s basketball team was unable to keep up with Guilford in the season opener on Thursday night, losing on the road 71-41.

Despite falling behind by double digits early, Greensboro climbed back into the game with an 11-3 run. A jumper by Chevena Pickard with 6:41 left in the half pulled The Pride to within 23-21.

Following a timeout, the Quakers got back to work with a run of their own. Guilford closed out the half with a 12-2 spurt to take a 35-23 advantage into the break.

The Greensboro deficit grew to 57-33 in the second half before The Pride scored seven unanswered points to narrow the margin to 57-40 with 7:37 left in the game.

That was as close as Greensboro would get, as Guilford outscored Greensboro 14-1 down the stretch for the final mark of 71-41.

Bianca Richburg was the high scorer for the night, finishing with 18 points. Jena Cabe also contributed with nine points. Pickard led The Pride on the boards with seven rebounds, while Richburg grabbed six.

Greensboro was outrebounded on the night by a final margin of 53-31 and was limited to a 29.3% shooting percentage from the floor.

The Pride will next be in action on Saturday, November 24 against Mary Washington at the Methodist University Thanksgiving Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
