Guilford College Cross Country: Norton Makes School History at NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College juniors Chad Norton and Andris Goncarovs ran in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind.

Norton crossed the finish line in 25 minutes, 31.1 at the eight-kilometer championship. His personal-best time ranks fifth in school history. His 73rd-place finish marks the highest NCAA finish in Guilford history and the third-highest finish by an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) runner in today’s race.

Goncarovs’ 25:45.6 finish ranks eighth in school history. He ran 0.9 seconds faster than he did last week at the South-Southeast Regional race. Goncarovs’ time represents his second-best this season. He finished 107th out of 280 runners and helped mark the first year Guilford has had two runners at the NCAA championship.

Lynchburg College clinched the top conference spot at the championship with Cody Stanton’s 25th-place finish (25:00.8). Bridgewater College’s Luke Sohl finished the race in 51st place (25:19.6).
