Elon Women’s Basketball Set for Post-Thanksgiving Match Up

ELON, N.C. – The Elon women’s basketball team (2-1) will take to the hardwood of Alumni Gym for the third straight game for a match up against American (0-3) on Saturday, Nov. 24, for a 2 p.m. tip. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for youth 12 and under.

Last Time Out
Elon picked up its second straight win with a 67-61 victory over UNCW on Sunday. The Phoenix battled back from six down with five minutes remaining to take a one possession lead, 61-59, with 2:31 on the clock. Ali Ford led all players with 19 points, while Kelsey Evans recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards. Sam Coffer also pulled down 10 rebounds to help the Phoenix out rebound the Seahawks, 49-34. Shon Redmond tied an Elon single-game record with 10 steals.

Scouting the Eagles
American is 0-3 on the season after falling at No. 10 Maryland, 94-54, on Wednesday. Geleisa George led the Eagles against the Terrapins with 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting and recorded three steals. Jen Dumiak, who is the reigning Patriot League Player of the Week, scored nine points. Dumiak leads the team in scoring, averaging 16.6 points per game. American is shooting 71 percent from the charity stripe, making 32 of its 45 attempts in three games. The Eagles are coached by Matt Corkery who is now in his fifth season as the head coach and eighth overall with the program.

The Series
Saturday will mark the third meeting between Elon and American. The Phoenix owns the all-time series, 2-0, after winning 70-55 on Dec. 30, 2002, in Alumni Gym and 72-53 on Dec. 30, 2003, in Washington, D.C.

Stop, Thief!
Shon Redmond tied an Elon single-game record with 10 steals against UNCW last Sunday. The senior is averaging 5.0 steals per game and leads the conference in steals.

Seeing Double
Kelsey Evans is averaging a double-double on the season after recording her second straight against UNCW. The senior is averaging 11.3 points and 10 rebounds per game. Evans ranks first in the league in offensive boards and third overall in total rebounds.

Approaching Milestones
Senior Kelsey Evans is closing in on becoming the 19th Elon player to reach the 1,000th career-point milestone. After three games this season, the Raleigh, N.C., native totaled 979 career points. Current teammate Ali Ford joined the 1,000-point club in 2011 and surpassed 1,500 career points at South Carolina on Nov. 9. Ford is 90 points shy from becoming second on Elon’s all-time career points list.
