College Basketball Buzzer Beater Video – Guilford vs. Eastern Mennonite

Guilford College defeated Eastern Mennonite, 67-64, in thrilling fashion Wednesday night when senior Josh Pittman drained a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Pittman scored a game-high 26 points in the game, 23 in the second half as Guilford rallied from a 36-23 deficit.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Josh Pittman’s (Archdale, N.C./Trinity) three-pointer at the buzzer lifted host Guilford College to a thrilling 67-64 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win over Eastern Mennonite University Wednesday night.

Pittman’s game-winner from over 30 feet away capped a stirring Guilford (3-1, 1-0 ODAC) rally from a 13-point halftime deficit. The senior guard led the comeback, scoring 23 of his game- and season-high 26 points in the second half. Pittman scored 12 points during a 21-3 Guilford run over a six-minute stretch that turned a 12-point deficit into a 49-43 lead with 11:03 left in regulation.

The Quakers’ lead grew to as many as 11 after a Jake Hopkins (Kernersville, N.C./East Forsyth) basket with 5:41 left, but Eastern Mennonite (4-1, 0-1 ODAC) refused to quit. Two Pittman free throws gave the Quakers a 63-55 lead with 3:07 remaining before the Royals reeled off six straight points. Andrew Thorne’s basket trimmed Guilford’s lead to 63-61 with two minutes left.

After the Quakers’ Jarred Hinton made one of two free throws with 14 seconds remaining, Thorne tied the game with a clutch three-pointer with 4.7 ticks left. Following a Guilford timeout, Hopkins made a long in-bounds pass to Pittman, who shook free from two defenders to receive the ball. He dribbled to his right to create space and scored the game-winner from well beyond the arc as time expired. Pittman, who turned 23 on Tuesday, made eight of 10 shots in the second half, including three-of-four three-pointers.

Hopkins was Guilford’s only other double-figure scorer with 10 points and shared team-high rebounding honors with six. Kevin Gibbs added eight points and six boards for the Quakers, who shot 56.7 percent from the floor in the second half after shooting just 37 percent in the first half.

Thorne paced four Royals in double-figure scoring with 17 points and added a game-best 11 rebounds. Ryan Yates finished with 15 points and R.J. Sims added 11. David Falk contributed 10 points off the bench.

Guilford returns to action Saturday (12/1) against visiting ODAC-rival Randolph-Macon College at 3:00 p.m. in the Ragan-Brown Field House.
