Southwest was on the road yet again for a third straight game Friday night to take on the Red Raiders of T.W. Andrews.
The Cowboys headed into the night’s contest seeking to remain undefeated and maintain a full head of steam. The hosts came out with a lot of energy, going up quickly 8-1. But the Cowboys showed their explosiveness and in a blur it was 10-10. After trading baskets for several possessions, SW scored the final 4 points of the opening quarter to go up 21-18.
Andrews came out in the second frame in a Box and 1 to try and stall the Cowboys. The tactic worked for a couple possessions, but not long. The visitors out scored the Red Raiders 25-10, including a 12-0 run to take a 46-28 lead at the break.
The third quarter showed the hosts’ grit and managed to win the frame, and afterwards it was 66-51. The Red Raiders continued to force their way back into it. Around the halfway mark of the final quarter, Andrews cut it all the way down to 70-61. After a timeout, the Cowboys refocused and went on another 12-0 run to pull it back out for the hard fought 84-63 victory on the road. Andrews was lead by Bennie Butler with 26 points. Southwest was paced by the trio of Terrell Leach (31), Ben Ferguson (14), and KJ Langley (13).
The Cowboys remain unbeaten at 3-0.
