Southwest Guilford trips up Northwest Guilford 90-70, as Cowboys ride hot hands of Leach and Langley and entire Cowboys’ team comes up BIG

It was a Piedmont Triad 4A Conference matchup between the Cowboys of
Southwest and the Vikings of Northwest tonight [1]. The Vikings came
into tonight [2]’s contest off a tightly lost matchup against Page
just last night for their first loss on the season, while the Cowboys
last played on Tuesday earning a home victory over Western. These
conference rivals wanted to establish themselves in this early
conference matchup, so both teams came out with a lot of intensity.
The Cowboys came out strong right out of the gate, jumping out 8-0. NW
responded well with 5 quick points by Cody Hylton to cut it to 8-5.
The Cowboys continued to press on the gas and got it all the way to
20-7, and the frame ended with the Cowboys up 22-11. The second
quarter was another tale however as the Vikings out played and
executed strongly to outscore the Cowboys 25-19 in the frame to make
it interesting at the break 41-36 in favor of SW. Another discussion
at the break about defensive intensity and not letting off the gas
motivated the visitors to press onward and picked up the defensive
energy and was able to force bad shots and turnovers and got the lead
out to 63-48 headed into the fourth. The final quarter was more of the
same, solid defense and quick Cowboys baskets and the Vikings were
forced to foul and Southwest pulled it out for a 90-70 conference
victory on the road. The Vikings were lead by Cody Hylton (16), and
Chris Keefer (11). Southwest was paced by Terell Leach (29), KJ
Langley (20), and Tyliek Brister (10). Southwest moves on to 5-0
overall and 1-0 in the conference.
