High Point Women’s Basketball Signs Two Recruits for 2013-14

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women’s basketball team has added guards Ashley Fields and Teddy Vincent for the 2013-14 season, announced head coach DeUnna Hendrix on Monday. Fields and Vincent signed National Letters of Intent to join the Panthers in the fall of 2010 as the first recruiting class under Hendrix.

“When we went in to recruiting the 2013 class we wanted student-athletes with a lot of toughness and a great work ethic,” Hendrix said. “Both Ashley and Teddy possess those qualities while also adding size, athleticism and skill to our team.”

Fields is a 5-foot-10 guard from Goose Creek, S.C. She was named one of the Top 5 seniors in South Carolina by the South Carolina High School Basketball Coaches Association. She helped Goose Creek High School to a State Championship in 2010 and was named to the High School Sports Report All-Rookie Team. She continued to improve and earned All-Region and All-State honors as a sophomore and junior. She averaged 12 points, 5.3 assists, 3.2 steals and 1.8 assists as a junior and surpassed the 1,000-point mark.

“Ashley is someone I have followed since her sophomore year,” Hendrix said. “She is a tall, athletic guard who will add a lot to our defense based on pure athleticism. She has a great mid-range game and can make plays by slashing and driving to the basket.”

Vincent joins High Point from Westview High School in Martin, Tenn. The 5-foot-10 guard has started every game since her sophomore year at Westview. She averaged 15.2 points and 6.1 rebounds in her junior campaign when she earned All-District and All-Region accolades. Vincent was also named second team All-West Tennessee last year.

“Teddy is going to stay in the gym until someone makes her leave,” Hendrix said. “She can really shoot the ball. It is immediately apparent that she has spent a lot of time with a basketball in her hands. She is deadly from beyond the arc and will expand defenses. Teddy understands angles and sees the floor really well so she is able to cut things off defensively.”

High Point opens Big South play at Winthrop on Tuesday at 7 p.m.. The Panthers are 5-5 this season after a win at USC Upstate on Sunday.
