High School Basketball Saturday Evening rewind

Looks like from last night, we had two of those ‘Game of the Week’/’Game of the Month’ candidates, with Southern Alamance-Dudley on the girls side and Northeast Guilford-Page on the boys docket….

Dudley girls top SA 47-44 and NEG boys get past Page 62-60….

Essence Abraham nails the three late to win it for the female Panthers and NEG holds off the late Page charge, when the Pirates can’t buy an outside shot and the Rams stay unbeaten, heading into the TIMCO next week….

Two very fine ball games and Page could not get the outside shot to fall and for NEG, Grant Griffin was something like 12-14 at the foul line and got fouled while attempting a three point shot in the last minute and a-half of the game and connected three times to push his team to the top….The NEG Ram boys are the top team in our GreensboroSports.com Poll for this week and I would love to see a game with NEG vs. Southwest tomorrow night, cause once the TIMCO week gets moving, NEG will see teams like GDS and then possibly Page again in the semis, so the Rams will really be tested next week….Almost like exams during your Christmas Break….

The Dudley girls have been tested with recent losses to Reidsville and West Forsyth, but last night they ran their Metro 4-A mark to a perfect (2-0) early in the conference campaign….Gonna be a real race with clubs like Dudley, Southeast Guilford, Page and Southern Alamance, all battling for the young ladies top spot…..

We are still very early into the 2012/2013 season, but already, we are seeing signs of things to come….

The Northeast Guilford boys are going to right back in the 3-A hunt again this year and for the boy’s 4-A look, SWG is very strong with Terrell Leach and KJ Langley, while NWG can get it done with the outside shooting touch from Cody Hylton and Nick Powell…Others also stepping up for both teams….

Dudley, Page and Smith will all be a part of the boys Metro shakedown…Three teams at the top and the others in hot pursuit(Grimsley, Western Guilford, Southern Alamance hoping, SEG seeking)…Girls Metro for right now shows 4 teams at the top, along with Western Guilford and Smith digging in and Grimsley now in total rebuild mode…..

Very good start for the Northern Guilford girls and they are getting it done with just 9 players on their roster….The Top Nine at nine, with Amanda Coffer, Sydney Wilson, Aliyah Grinage and Gabby Boyd being the four, that have shown that they can score for the Nighthawks and we will see how they fare next week at the TIMCO Invitational…..Page and Greensboro Day are the favorites going in for the girls, Pirates #1 and Bengals #2….

Take a look at our Top High School Scorers and if your team or team players don’t show up in this post, they should be over there….Lots of names to look over, so go over there and check it out……

Time to retire Rewind for now….

Could go on and write all night, but we have other posts to tend to…..

  1. not surprised that the GDS vs. W. Stokes boys’ game was a decent game, and it looks like GDS girls pulled away in 4th quarter for their win over W. Stokes, but a little surprised the girls’ game was a one point game entering the 4th quarter as W. Stokes girls are 0-4 in the Northwest 1A/2A Conference. I know that is a good girls’ hoops conference.

  2. The refers keep the game close with a 3 to 1 foul count at half time. Just go to maxprep for west stokes hs and read the game log and you will see invisible foul after invisible foul. GDS was in serious foul trouble within 8 minutes. There is no way this team could have keep GDS down to about 27 at the half otherwise. GDS shut their guards down early in the 3rd Q and never looked back. West Stoke only scored 14 second half points. These GDS girls are a fun team to watch.
