The New Garden Friends girls and boys teams concluded their showcase weekend for Friends Schools with wins over the visiting Friends Central Phoenix of Wynnewoode, Pa. Saturday night. The Bears girls cruised to a 48-30 win over the Friends Central girls as Kenice Purvis tossed in 23 points and Asia Milton followed with 16. The rest of the scoring included Sydney Smith with 6, Elaina Gardner 2, and Quawahi Wong Lee 1.

In the nightcap, the Bears boys fell behind early and trailed by 13 at the half. They made defensive adjustments and turned the game around in the second half. Kanayo Obi-Rapu again led the way scoring 17 of his game high 32 points in the Bears dominant fourth quarter. He added 10 assists for a double-double and 9 rebounds just missing a triple. Isaiah Manderson added 12 points and 9 rebounds to the Bears total. The NGFS scoring was completed by Mason Wyrick with 9, Kingsley Nzekwe and Josh Wilkerson with 8 each and Noah Poulos with 3. The Bears’ Juan Urena shut down the Phoenix high scoring Billy Cassidy for the last three quarters, holding him to a single field goal and two free throws after he had a 14 point first quarter explosion.

In earlier games Saturday in the Showcase Abington Friends of Jenkintown, Pa. girls defeated the Community Baptist girls and The Abington Friends boys defeated the Carolina Friends boys.
New Garden Friends girls and boys will be in action again for a special Christmas Eve event as they play host to the visiting girls and boys teams from Brisbane, Austrailia on Monday, December 24. The girls will tip off at 11:00 A.M and the boys game will follow at approximately 12:30.
