Ragsdale 66, Southern Guilford 52

Ragsdale went on the road Wednesday night to take on the Southern Guilford Storm. After falling behind 15 – 14 at the end of the first quarter, Ragsdale scored the first 9 points of the second to take an 8 point lead and never looked back. The Tigers scored 22 second quarter points led by 9 from James Stepp and 6 from Daniel Kanakanui to take a nine point lead into the locker room with a 36 – 27 lead.
The Storm tried to rally early in the third period led by Jaqwan McCauley who scored 5 straight points in one minute to cut the Ragsdale lead to six points, but the Tigers responded with a 7 – 0 run as Kanakanui scored five in a row to give his team a 13 point lead. They continued to expand the lead, going up by 16 at the end of three, 55 – 39 and when they scored 9 straight points in the first 3 minutes of the final quarter the lead grew to 25. From there, Coach Shoemaker emptied his bench and the Tigers went on to record the 66 – 52 win
Ragsdale handled the press well all night and got some strong inside play from Kanakanui and Jarrett Holland. They also connected on 11 of 15 foul shots while Southern Guilford shot poorly from the charity stripe, connecting on only 5 of 17 attempts.
Daniel Kanakanui led all scorers with 19 points, while James Stepp had 15 and Jarrett Holland added 14 for the Tigers. Shamar McColl was the leading scorer for the Storm with 12 points as he hit four three pointers, all in the first half. Jaqwan McCauley was also in double figures with 11.

Southern Guilford 52, Ragsdale 49

Southern Guilford Lady Storm jumped out to an 18 – 7 lead after one quarter and went into the locker room at the half up by 12 points at 31 – 19. Freshman center Kelena Morris had 14 points in the first half to lead her team.
Ragsdale increased the pressure in the third period and forced some steals that they converted into easy baskets to battle back and force a 40 – 40 tie headed to the final quarter. The Lady Tigers got an early lead in the fourth when Godwin Dooley hit a three and Mikayla Pettyjohn converted a rebound into a basket to take a 45 – 40 advantage.
From there, the Lady Tigers just could not hold onto the lead. Southern scored 6 points to retake the lead before Jordyn Quick took a perfect pass from Godwin Dooley and converted it into a layup to give Ragsdale a one point lead at 47 – 46 with 3:40 left to play. The Lady Tigers would not score another point until three seconds remained while the Lady Storm got four points from Khayla Miller and two foul shots to take a 5 point lead at 52 – 47 before Mikayla Pettyjohn hit a short jumper for Ragsdale to make the final 52 – 49.
Southern freshman Kelena Morris led all scorers with 18 points while Ariel Ellis added 14 and Hailey Chandler had 12. Mikayla Pettyjohn led the Lady Tigers with 14 points while Godwin Dooley was also in double figures with 11.
