High School Basketball Saturday Morning rewind:Can the crowd effect the outcome of the game?(They had them packed up to the rafters over at Grimsley last night)

Great crowd for the PAGE at Grimsley game last night…The fans were packed into the Bob Sawyer Gymnasium, going up to the rafters and the Grimsley student section was roaring….

Which brings us to the question, ‘Can the crowd effect the outcome of the game?”…

As long as your team is ‘in’ the game….The Grimsley fans and really the Whirlies’ student section was buzzing, as long as the Whirlies stayed within range of Page in the boy’s game, but as soon as Page began to pull away, the crowd(Whirlie Student Section) began it go away(disappear)…

The Whirlie Student Section didn’t leave the building, they just didn’t have a dog left in the fight, once the Pirates took over for good and put the game away…Grimsley rallied a few times, but not enough, but there were enough fans there to make a difference…

Great student turn-out from both sides and even though the Grimsley boys had lost three straight games on the way into this one, the ‘Whirlie Nation’ was there in full force for this contest, another in a long line of ‘Grimsley versus PAGE’ batttles, on the court and on the field….

To me, this was the best combined gathering of students that we have seen this season…If you add up the number of Grimsley and PAGE students that were at this game, this is the best student turnout that we have seen over the entire high school basketball season, up to this point of the year….

I feel the GRIMSLEY Students could have taken over the #1 Student Section spot and pushed Northwest Guilford into the runnerup’s spot, if the Whirlies could have had a great comeback and won this game…Page took the Whirlies Student Section out of the game, with the PAGE win and no Whirlie comeback…

Northwest Guilford still holds down the #1 Student Section spot and they grabbed that poll/pole position at their home game with Northern Guilford and haven’t given up the top spot yet….Grimsley can fall into the #2 spot, but PAGE may be ready to claim that place, when Grimsley goes over to PAGE, later on this basketball season….

Top combined ‘Student Section’ for the year has to go to GRIMSLEY and PAGE for what we saw last night, in their efforts to cheer on and yell for their teams…

I haven’t seen Southwest Guilford at home yet this season, but I hear it was kind of/sort of loud over at SWG last night for the Ragsdale game…Can the Cowboys bring it to ‘The Ranch’ and load up that ‘Corral’ again this season??? I’m going to have to go see it, to believe it….SWG has shown us their stuff in the past and Terrell Leach is really still showing his stuffs in 2012/2013….

The News and Record photo of Leach probably threw a few fans off this morning…They had Leach on the front page of the sports section wearing a #32, I think it was, this morning and Leach’s number is (2)/two…Got some blood on his jersey and had to make the switch/change last night…So, I guess that was Leach on the front page of the N&R on this Saturday morning….Leach left early due to fouls, but the Cowboys stepped up, and still won the game…

As we were saying up at the top of the ‘Saturday Morning rewind’ for this edition,
“Can the crowd effect the outcome of the game?”

You bet they can, but your team has to be in the thick of the game and Page took Grimsley’s ‘Whirlie Nation’ out of the game last night, but again, I hand it to you ‘Whirlie Fans’/’The Student Section’, you brought your ‘A’ game last night……

*****Big week so far for Leach and the ‘Whirlie Student Section’ and did anybody catch the ‘Nothing But Net’ show on WFMY NEWS 2 Sports last night, what did they have going on?????*****

  1. I agree Andy. There were a lot of emotions in this game but I was glad to see no major incidents. I guess someone on the Page side got a technical but not sure what that was about. It was really a pretty tight game but Page made their foul shots down the stretch and we did not make our shots or our foul shots.

As far as the crowd making a difference I agree with exactly what you said. Last year Grimsley stayed close enough to keep the crowd in it and emotion and adreneline kicked in to give us just enough to beat a more athletic team. This year Page kept the crowd out of the game.

  2. Twas a great crowd last night at GHS! Intense and competitive. Glad to see the students show up and get involved. All rivalry games should be like that.

Ty Graves is quickly becoming one of the top players in the city. Never have seen poise and shooting form like this from a freshman, much less a senior. Real Deal! Cant say enough about Carter Stanly or Jay Gavin either. Both are tough as nails and do all the dirty work like playing tough D, taking charges, boxing out, rebounding, finding open man, etc.. Both are footballers and it shows! Wish Eaves would quit worrying about his shots and points and forcing things and just let game come to him and score within offense play. Sykes is athletic and fun to watch. Xavier needs to step it up and play more consistently! Page could make a nice run if X can step it up.
