Rob Parker, the commentator who created controversy when he questioned whether Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is a “cornball brother” because he has a white fiancee, has been fired by ESPN.
“Rob Parker’s contract expired at year end. Evaluating our needs and his work, including his recent RGIII comments, we decided not to renew,” an ESPN spokesman said in a written statement.
ESPN can spin this as simply a decision not to renew his contract, rather than a firing, but the reality is that ESPN specifically stated on December 20 that Parker had been suspended for 30 days, and as of December 20, ESPN was expecting Parker back at the end of his 30-day suspension. (He made the comments on December 13, so a 30-day suspension from that date would have ended on January 12.)
So why did Parker’s discipline change from a 30-day suspension to termination? ESPN isn’t saying, but it may be that the network was unhappy with a recent interview Parker gave in which he said that ESPN knew what he was going to say on the air before he said it.

They absolutely did the right thing albeit they took too long to do so and I’m convinced they did it oly for the sake of hoping RG3 won’t hold a grudge and refusing to do interviews.
Racial discrimination in our society will never improve so long as there’s a double standard with regard to the source of racial slurs. Judging, favoring, or disparaging someone based on the color of their skin is wrong regardless of the race of person who is doing it.
In reading all of the comments, it does appear that RPI, I guess Rob Parker 1 did step over some line and or lines, and I’m still trying to figure out which ones…
Looks like ESPN had him on board as a ‘Lightning Rod’ and it all went overboard…
How is he alike or different from Steven A. Smith and what was Parker’s background before he came to ESPN….
I don’t catch a lot of ESPN TV, but I do follow their radio network closely and before this I had never really heard of Rob Parker, but I do find all of this interesting….
I don’t really know the subject matter that well in regards to what Parker did, but this is again, a very good topic and I sort of see ESPN bringing him back one day, for the controversial side of the coin and for how much publicity it would draw if Parker came back with them and hit the air again for ESPN TV…
Remember how much PUB Jim Rome used to bring in for ESPN back in day…Maybe Parker could become that sort of ‘sports character’, sort of like a modern-day Jim Rome, in 2013…..
Good read and fun to learn more about….Parker seems to be a deep subject that many are not aware of and let’s hope this helps get the word out there….

Prime example of keeping it real goeas wrong. I dont see the difference in what he said and some of the stuff Stephen A. and Skip bayless say. but Oh well
If ESPN doesn’t bring Rob Parker back, then I think another network like Fox or somebody, maybe even the new CBS Sports Network will pick him up.
Parker could be the hot commodity that the top excutives are looking for right now.
Parker and Rome back to back would light up the phones and set the building on fire.
Parker ought to be sending us a few pops(bucks), we have been getting him quite a bit of pub for the Parker pops….
