Greensboro College Men’s Basketball Sees Big Lead Evaporate in Loss at Methodist

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) — The Greensboro College men’s basketball team saw a 12-point first half lead evaporate in an 83-75 road loss at Methodist (4-8, 1-2) on Wednesday night. The loss marks the third straight for The Pride, as they fall to 6-7 overall and 1-4 in the USA South.

Greensboro took the lead early in this one, doubling up the Monarchs at 10-5 less then five minutes into the night. The Pride stretched the advantage into double figures at 28-18 midway through the first half.

The margin hit its largest point at 12-points at 32-20 following a layup by Luqman Tijani with 8:10 on the clock. The turning point of the night came in the final five minutes of the first half, as Methodist went on an 11-2 run to cut the deficit to 40-39 heading into the break.

Brian Thomas got the second half started on the right note for Greensboro, draining a three on the first possession to provide some breathing room at 43-39. The Pride would use the momentum to build the lead back into double digits at 57-46 at the 14:04 mark.

The Monarchs came storming back, drawing to within 57-54 after an 8-0 spurt. Greensboro answered with four free throws to take the lead to 61-54. The teams would trade three-pointers with Thomas knocking down a trey to give The Pride a 64-57 lead with 8:47 to go in the game.

The Pride would not score again until the 4:46 point, as Methodist rallied with a 15-0 run to grab a commanding 74-64 advantage. Greensboro would not get any closer then eight points down the stretch, falling in the end 83-75.

The Pride finished the game shooting 41% from the field compared to 46% for the Monarchs. Greensboro outrebounded Methodist 46-43 but committed eight more turnovers than Methodist.

Thomas netted a team high 23 points with Tijani contributing 20. Raheem Martin also added 12 for The Pride. Chakiris Moss led Greensboro on the glass with seven rebounds.

The Pride will look to snap their skid on Saturday with a 4 p.m. road game at Averett.
