College Women’s Basketball News – Ray Edmond Added to Guilford Coaching Staff

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College Athletics Director Tom Palombo announced Ray Edmond ’08 as the newest member of Guilford’s women’s basketball coaching staff Friday. Edmond, who also works as a counselor in Guilford’s admissions office, will be an assistant coach on Stephanie Flamini‘s staff.

Edmond lettered four seasons with the Quakers’ men’s basketball team and played on Guilford’s NCAA Tournament teams in 2007 and 2008. The Quakers won the 2007 ODAC Tournament and forged a 48-10 record in Edmond’s final two seasons. He appeared in 107 career contests, averaging 4.4 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. Edmond was a defensive specialist in his final college campaigns, but averaged a career-high 8.0 points per game and ranked third on the team in scoring as a freshman. He won Guilford’s Coaches’ Award as a senior and represented the Quakers in the 2008 ODAC-USA South Athletic Conference Senior All-Star Game. He earned his degree in computer and information systems and minored in business management.

A native of nearby Winston-Salem, N.C., Edmond was a two-sport standout at North Forsyth High School. He was an All-Metro 4A Conference guard on coach Mike Muse’s basketball team and an honorable mention all-league receiver with the football team. Edmond received North Forsyth’s 2004 Male Athlete of the Year Award.

After Guilford Edmond earned his master’s degree in education management from Strayer University where he was inducted into the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society. He broke into coaching as the boys’ basketball coach at Southern Guilford High School where his teams posted a 32-9 record in Edmond’s two seasons.

Flamini’s Quakers are 10-3 overall (4-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) entering Saturday’s (1/12) home game with Shenandoah University at 2:00 p.m.
