College Women’s Swimming Results – Guilford Drops Decisions to Ferrum and Hollins

ROANOKE, Va. – Guilford College’s women’s swimming team dropped decisions to Ferrum University and Hollins University Saturday at Hollins’ Northen Pool. Ferrum posted a 48-39 nonconference win over Guilford, while the hosts downed the Quakers, 53-40, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) competition.

The Quakers won both relays and had four second-place finishes in one of their most competitive meets of the season. Guilford’s 200-yard medley relay of Kendra Medina, Morgan McKinnon, Julia Sheehan and Sydney Hawkins turned in a winning time of two minutes, 18.75 seconds. Sheehan, Becca Dozier, Jocelyn Gesner and Abby Gove claimed the 200 freestyle relay in 2:22.29.

Medina, a junior, continued her assault on the Quakers’ backstroke times with a second-place finish in the 200-yard race. She finished second to Ferrum’s Jess Rowney in a time of 2:35.90, her first sub-2:36 clocking and the second-fastest in Guilford history. Medina now owns four of the school’s top-five times in the 200-yard backstroke.

Sheehan placed second in the 200 butterfly in 3:21.97 and Dozier was second in the 500 freestyle in 6:55.25. McKinnon had a second-place time in the 200 breaststroke (3:02.81).

The meet concludes the dual portion of the Quakers’ (0-9, 0-8 ODAC) campaign. Coach Emily Wilson’s team now sets its sight on the ODAC Championships Feb. 8-10 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
