Rematch With Cougars Set for Sunday for Elon Women’s Basketball

ELON, N.C. – The Elon women’s basketball team (9-7, 6-1) looks to avenge its only loss of the conference season thus far in a rematch at College of Charleston (7-9, 3-4) on Sunday, Jan. 20. Tip is set for 2 p.m. in TD Arena.

Last Time Out
Elon picked up its fifth straight win on Friday with a 79-69 win over Furman in Alumni Gym. The Phoenix had five players in double figures, including Ali Ford who scored 21 points and tied her career high of eight assists. Kelsey Evans, Kelsey Harris and Candice Silas all scored 11 points, while Sam Coffer finished with 10. Overall, Elon hit 29-of-60 from field to shoot 68 percent with 40 points coming in the paint.

Scouting the Cougars
CofC dropped its last game in a 63-55 decision to Appalachian State. Latisha Harris is the team’s leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 14 points and 8.8 boards per game. Alyssa Frye is dangerous from long distance after making 43 threes this season and averaging 10.8 points per game.

The Series
CofC leads the all-time series between the two programs, 14-8, after winning in a close game in Alumni Gym earlier this season. The Cougars picked up the 57-55 victory after a three at the buzzer did not fall for the Phoenix. Elon had come back from six down in the last four minutes to tie the game at 55. CofC was able to hit two free throws within the final minute to secure the win. Ali Ford scored a team-high 13 points, while Kelsey Evans scored her 1,000-career point in the game.

The Comeback Kid
Candice Silas made a comeback in a big way in Friday’s game against Furman. Silas, who tore her ACL in the second game of the 2011-12 season, finished with 11 points and three rebounds in nine minutes of play in her first game back. Her 11 points tied her career high as did her five field goals.

Looking Ahead
The Phoenix will take on Davidson next Saturday, Jan. 26, in Davidson, N.C. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Belk Arena.
