Torn ACL Sidelines River Mill Girls Basketball Standout

River Mill guard Ashley Spivey tore her ACL in last week’s win over Durham School of the Arts.

The 5’ 5” senior sharpshooter averaged 14.4 points per game last season, and she contributed 3.1 assists and 2.4 steals per contest. She is a Two-Time Carolina 12 2-A/1-A All-Conference Selection, and she was voted to the NCBCA All-District Team last season. Spivey also holds the All-Time River Mill Career Record for 3-Pointers made with 179.

Without Spivey, River Mill 13-1 (8-0 in conference) will face stiff challenges this week. The Lady Jags play 4-A Greensboro Dudley on Monday, followed by Granville Central (14-1) in a key 2-A/1-A conference matchup on Tuesday. The road will not get any easier for the Lady Jags, as bouts against 2-A Conference foe Northwood and Eastern Guilford are looming.

River Mill Coach Hamilton Perkins said, “Ashley is one of our multi-dimentional leaders, who plays with unyielding hustle and tremendous heart! We’ll have to dig down deep as a team in her absence, but our primary concern is for her well-being! We put everything in the hands of the Lord.”

“We pray that she stay mentally, emotionally, and spiritually strong, and we’ll do the same,” Perkins added.
