Elon Men’s Basketball Closes Out Homestand Against Chattanooga on Thursday

ELON, N.C. – Winners of its last three games, the Elon University men’s basketball team completes a three-game homestand on Thursday night, Jan. 24, when it welcomes Chattanooga to Alumni Gym for a 7 p.m. tip.

THE SERIES: Thursday night marks the 21st all-time meeting between Elon and Chattanooga. The Mocs lead the all-time series, 11-9. In games played on Elon’s campus, the Phoenix is 5-4 against the Mocs. The last time the two squads met inside Alumni Gym was January 21, 2012, when the Phoenix came away with a one-point win, 88-87. Elon bounced back from a nine-point second-half deficit for the win, putting four players in double figures.

LAST MEETING: The two teams last met on February 9, 2012, at Chattanooga, as the Mocs avenged a loss earlier in the season by defeating the Phoenix, 83-75. Chattanooga ended a seven-game losing streak with the win, shooting 58 percent in the second half and going on a 25-10 run to secure the win.

LOOKING BACK: Elon claimed a 68-61 win over Wofford in front of a sellout crowd in its last game on Jan. 19, going on a 13-3 run over the final 4:31 of the second half. Sebastian Koch hit a key up-and-under layup along the baseline with 3:20 to play that gave Elon its final lead of the game. Jack Isenbarger and Lucas Troutman went 6-for-6 at the free throw line in the game’s final 1:52 to secure the victory.

APPROACHING A MILESTONE: Jack Isenbarger enters Thursday’s game just five points shy of 1,000 career points. Only 34 players in Elon’s 104-year history have reached the 1,000-point milestone, with Drew Spradlin being the last to do so. Lucas Troutman isn’t far behind at 944 career points.

LOOKING AHEAD: Following Thursday’s game against UTC, Elon hits the road for its next two games. The Phoenix heads to Charleston, S.C., on Saturday to take on the The Citadel at 2:05 p.m. On Jan. 31, the Phoenix heads to the Greensboro Coliseum to face preseason Southern Conference North Division favorite UNCG.
