Men’s College Basketball Final – Lynchburg 86, Guilford 66

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Manny Hernandez had 25 points in Lynchburg College’s 86-66 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over host Guilford Wednesday night in the Ragan-Brown Field House.

The Hornets (15-3, 6-3 ODAC) led the entire first half until Guilford’s (14-4, 6-3 ODAC) Matt McCarthy hit a three-pointer with :02 on the clock to send the Quakers into the locker room ahead by one, 36-35, at the half. Guilford increased their lead when the second half began. The Quakers led by nine points with 13:29 left in the game. A series of three off-the-bench three-pointers by Robby Kaiser turned the tide, putting the Hornets up by one. Lynchburg never looked back.

Andrew Simmons had 13 points for Lynchburg. Austen Arnold added 10. Austin Chillemi snagged game-highs in rebounds (10) and blocks (2). Simmons and Brandon Connor led the Hornets with three assists apiece. Mike Glover was ei ht-for-eight from the line to help Lynchburg to 90.5% shooting from the stripe.

Josh Pittman shared game-high points honors (25) with Hernandez, scoring 16 of his points in the first half. He also paced the Quakers with eight assists and went five-for-six from the free throw line. McCarthy scored 11 points and stood second on the team in assists (5). Zeb Richardson’s eight rebounds led the team and stood second overall. Jake Hopkins had eight points and grabbed seven boards. Will Freeman scored eight points off-the bench.

The Quakers next play home Saturday, February 2 at 2:00 p.m. against conference newcomer Shenandoah University in the Ragan-Brown Field House.
