Elon Track and Field Completes Day One at Penn State National

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., – Junior thrower Charlise Morgan extended her program-record in the weight throw as the Elon women’s track and field team competed in the first day of the Penn State National on Friday evening, Jan. 25. Morgan had a toss of 52’01” (15.87m) for the Phoenix at the Ashenfelter III Indoor Track facility.

Morgan’s throw bests her record performance of last week, when she threw for a then-school record of 51’11.75″ (15.84) at the Wake Forest Invitational. Morgan finished 14th overall in the event with Kimberlyn Holt placing 23rd with a throw of 46’04” (14.12m).

Freshman Sydney Griffin also set a new personal-best in the 60-meter hurdles with a qualifying time of 8.73. The Marietta, Ga., native improved by three seconds from her previous record she set last week at Wake Forest.

Louise Prevoteau was 22nd in the long jump with a leap of 16’9.25” (5.11m). Haylee Dawe was 15th in the 5,000-meter run after crossing the line with a time of 17:56.67.

The meet will conclude tomorrow with the first event, the women’s 400-meter dash, slated to begin at 10:30 a.m.
