Greensboro Women’s Basketball Beats Piedmont 59-45

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) — The Pride women’s basketball team (9-7 Overall, 5-5 USA South) beat Piedmont (8-8 Overall, 4-6 USA South) 59-45 in the first game on the newly dedicated Mayo C. Harlow Court on Saturday.

Greensboro slowly built a 15-9 lead over the first ten minutes of the opening frame. The advantage would grow to 23-14 at the 3:43 mark before the Lions closed the gap to 28-23 at halftime.

Bianca Richburg led the charge in the first half, scoring 11 of her game high 18 points to go along with seven rebounds.

Following a Pride three to kick off the second half, Piedmont rallied to within 30-29 with 15:39 on the clock. Greensboro would answer with a run of its own, scoring the next nine points to go ahead 39-29 with 12:59 to go in the game.

The Lions would get no closer than five points for the remainder of the way as The Pride maintained a lead that eventually grew to as many as 16 points.

In addition to her 18 points, Richburg started a new double-double streak with 16 rebounds. Jena Cabe also had a solid night with nine points and 14 rebounds. Alicia Burr finished with nine points and eight boards, while Chevena Pickard added 11 points and eight rebounds.

As a team, Greensboro hit on 37.3% of its shots but limited Piedmont to 21.3% shooting. The Pride also held a 51-41 advantage in the rebounding category.

Greensboro will be back in action on the Mayo C. Harlow Court at Hanes Gym on Sunday against LaGrange. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
