  1. What the GDS boys are doing is unfair ? They are playing with something that the other teams don’t have or cannot get – “HEART”. WES and HPC both have big teams but GDS is running out on the floor with their “HEARTs” first and it is carrying them to some amazing heights. The GDS heartbeat appeared dead most of the night but mid way thru the 3rd it all changed with Christian’s huge dunk over the HPC guy. GDS’s HEART grew ten times bigger and they never looked back. “HEART” – it is an amazing asset when it’s in your players.

  2. Congrats to GDS!!! But Wes and HPC coaches really stink up the gyms. Can somebody PLEASE find the city of HighPoint some privet school coaches b/c they really can’t coach talent. And if Wes coaching staff don’t make and adjustments they’re be mad again!!! GDS GDS????????

  3. If bigs weren’t in foul trouble for HPCA and mike could play more then 2 quarters it’s a different game. GDS does the little things. Like BOXING OUT. And those little things add up to big wins. With less talent they are worst case splitting with the 2 biggest threats on the schedule. And continue to stay unbeaten. Ill be shocked if they can go to Wes and HPCA and get wins. But they held serve on there home court. Solid win by those boys.

  4. I think it is time we start giving more credit to the Greensboro Day players…They came out led by Christian Hairston and John Terry and won that game in the second….

It is hard to stop a freight train once it picks up steam and starts heading down the track/floor and so far nobody has been able to stop GDS….

The credit should go to the GDS coaching staff and the Bengal players….You really can’t crack on the opposing coaches, they are still young and their staffs can not compare to the GDS staff and it’s experience….

GDS gets the job done and I don’t think it is as much what the others teams and their coaches are not doing, it is what GDS is doing….

Time to put the props where they belong, in the hands of the GDS Bengals and their ‘TEAM’ effort and that includes their coaches who made the correct adjustments at halftime and they had the Bengals back and ready to play and take that WIN in the second…

Once they got going there was not stopping GDS, no what the other team did….

Props to Bengals and very BIG games from John Terry and Christian Hairston and another super defensive job by Montrell Goldston…..He put his body all over the floor….

UNREAL comeback by the Bengals after being down 16 at halftime….The are one of the best teams in the state at any level…..

  5. One more note and I will get out of the way of progress….Coach Clifford and HPCA have proven they can win….They beat GDS twice last season and WES once…HPCA can get it done, but the Bengals did get it done and they ‘finished’ tonight….

  6. I have never witnessed anything like I saw tonite at GDS. The first half was all HPC. HPC had I think a 13 point lead at half. The biggest reason was because of HPC 2 big men. They were intimidating and gave GDS truble with their length. The second half they were never out there together. GDS is undoubtably the best coached team in North Carolina. With their talent and size compaered to HPC and Wes they should not beat either team. But like heart said, yu can’t teach heart and they have that for sure. Kudos go out to Freddy, Jeff, Steve ad Johnny for getting them prepared evey game.

  7. REAL HEART, I doubt your son or brother would be happy with you for posting nonsense like that. There was nothing that happened tonight that even remotely looked like they were trying to get a player going off instead of winning a ball game, you just displayed pure ignorance and jealousy. And people wonder why so few teams have good chemistry…it’s from all the crap people put into their heads at home like this.

  8. JUST TO MAKE IT CLEAR HPC CAN BEAT ANY TEAM OUT THERE WHEN THE TEAM AND COACHES HAVE IT TOGETHER ! LEAVE THE POLITICS OUT OF THE GAME !! IJS

  9. GEEZ , EVERYONE HAS A RIGHT TO THEIR OPINION HOWEVER IGNORANT IT MAY SEEMS . THAT WHAT MAKES THIS COUNTRY GREAT. FREE SPEECH AND THE RIGHT TO EXPRESS IT .. I CALL IT HOW I SEE IT …

  10. If you are gonna call out a coach and a kid for what you are saying is basically throwing games to make a kid look good, throw out some facts to prove so. Since you are such a basketball genius. HPC played extremely hard tonight and are very well coached. It took a crazy half for them to lose, and they are undoubtedly one of the top programs in the state. Getting on here throwing out garbage like that is ridiculous. Give some facts, don’t just throw a kid under the bus because you are salty.

  11. I think somebody missed something we talked about earlier tonight…

HPCA has a very good team…

The beat GDS twice last year and WES once and HPCA started the year out at something like (26-0)….That is the sign of a very good team….

HPCA is doing very well and they are still a developing program…They are #3 behind WES and GDS in terms of time on the hoops scene…GDS has been around the longest and then comes WES and then comes HPCA…

You have to be patient and build and the program grows from there and that is what HPCA is doing and they are doing it the right way…..

Slow down a little bit….You just can’t come in and take over….It doesn’t work that way…You have to build and earn it and it takes time and if you think it is about politics you signed on for the wrong program…

Tonight’s agenda is congratulate Greensboro Day on their great win and HPCA did not give this game away, GDS went to work and took it…

Almost like what we saw UNC do in the State game, but UNC did not finish their mission and they came up short…Sometimes you play your butts off and you still come up a bit short….

Got to keep on working and go out and earn it and it takes time…

  12. THE THING IS I’M NOT KNOCKING ANYONE BUT IF YOU WANT FACTS CHECK OUT THE LAST BIG GAME HPC PLAYED THIS YR AND STOP LIVING IN THE PAST … HOLIDAY CLASSIC, WES GAME, GDS GAME …

  13. Great HS basketball game tonight! HPCA played a great first half, GDS found it’s
rhythm in the 2nd half. If GDS looses, a team will beat them; they will not beat themselves.

    I find this be quite a nice web site, that offers informative and expedient sporting news;
however, some of the nasty, vitriolic post that are spewed about our kids are quite perplexing.

I am an ardent believer, in that if you have something of merit to say, don’t hide behind a screen name. Let a kid know who you are.

  14. We are going to close out the chat on this one for now and pick it back tomorrow after church.

  15. Sensational basketball last night. Two really good teams competing. GDS just figures out a way to win. They were terrible early and I thought HPC just totally took the game to GDS early. GDS came out swinging in the 2nd half and never quit. They did an unbelievable job guarding in the 2nd half. I think HPC scored 22 points but 9 of them were in the last 30 seconds. JT Terry did it again. That kid is a winner. They are going to miss him next year. And they won without the services of Reed Lucas in the 4th quarter and questionable officiating. I was shocked when I read the paper today and Coach Clifford was complaining about the officials. I thought they got a lot more calls than GDS. Not so sure what he was watching to think they got hosed by the refs. Bottom line is GDS survived. I just hope they can pull of some of this magic in late Febuary.

  16. There were multiple calls in the 2nd half called against HPCA that while there weren’t a ton, were at critical times. The loose ball travel where the GDS player clearly knocked down the HPCA player, and the backcourt call after a GDS deflection were bad calls at bad times. Curious quotes in the paper, especially considering the HP Enterprise version of the story where Clifford clearly credited GDS. Guess you don’t know what part of an interview is going to get printed. The free throw disparity was pretty large as well when both teams play physical aggressive defense. Don’t recall anyone saying they were hosed, just simply wasn’t happy with how it was called. As a neutral observer I could certainly see why.

  17. It looked like at one time/point in the game, that Reed Lucas may have hurt or dinged up his hand….

  18. I attended the game but didn’t really care who won because I have no skin the game.
The FT difference mostly had to do with the fact that HP Christian fouled on purpose at the end of the game because they were down. So if you take those FTs out of it, then that was pretty even.
The foul count was even in both halves of the game.
Overall, it was a great high school basketball game. HP Christian controlled the first half and GDS controlled the 2nd half. I thought GDS did a good of making some adjustments at half and battled through without the services of Reed Lucas who must have suffered some sort of an injury during the game. It should be a battle when they meet over in High Point.
