Phoenix Women’s Basketball Welcomes Eagles to Alumni Gym on Monday

ELON, N.C. – The Elon women’s basketball team (10-8, 7-2) will close out January play with a game against Georgia Southern (4-14, 3-6) in Alumni Gym on Monday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for all youth 12 and under.

Last Time Out
Elon saw its six-game winning streak snapped on Saturday in a 77-62 loss at Davidson. The Phoenix led the Wildcats for the majority of the first half and by as much as six points with 17:17 left to play, but the maroon and gold was not able to battle back after a 10-2 run by Davidson in the last seven minutes. Ali Ford scored a game-high 23 points, while Sam Coffer scored 16 points after going 4-of-4 from beyond the arc and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe.

Scouting the Eagles
Georgia Southern is coming off a 63-56 victory at UNCG on Saturday marked the second straight win for the Eagles. Guard MiMi Dubose scored a game-high 21 points against the Spartans after going 8-of-20 from the field. Dubose leads the team in scoring with 14.9 points per game, while Anna Claire Knight is the team leader on the glass, hauling down 5.8 rebounds a game.

The Series
Monday will mark the 20th meeting between the Phoenix and the Eagles, which dates back to 2004. GSU owns the all-time series with an 11-8 record, however, Elon has won three of the last four games, including the last two. The last time the two programs met was on Feb. 18, 2012, when Elon claimed an 83-53 victory in Statesboro, Ga.

Home-Court Advantage
The Phoenix has won its last five straight games in Alumni Gym, dating back to a 74-54 win over Morgan State on Dec. 13. Elon is a perfect 5-0 in 2013 on its home court, while holding a 7-2 overall home record this season.

Looking Ahead
Elon will travel to the mountains to face Appalachian State on Saturday, Feb. 2. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m. and the game will be broadcasted on ESPN3.com.
