Game Report: Northwest vs Southwest Boys Basketball

It was a clash of the top two teams in the PTC tonight as the Vikings of NW came down to the Ranch to face off against the Cowboys of SW.

In their matchup over a month ago, Southwest got the better of the Vikings, winning easily 90-70, but a lot has gone on since that meeting in the middle of December. Who would prevail in this conference matchup? Can the #2 team in the state remain perfect on the year and retain 1st place in the PTC?

Northwest came out with a smaller lineup in hopes to matchup better with the Cowboys, and as the game began the junk defense put on SW’s Leach slowed them down. The Vikings got up 5-2, and the score remained that way for a while. With about 1:30 left in the quarter the Cowboys scored the final 4 points of the frame to take an extremely low first quarter at 6-5.

The second quarter opened with the Cowboys waking up and scoring the first 8 points of the frame and took a hold on the game going up 14-5. The Vikings weren’t going to lay down and tried to stay in the game but another 10-2 by the hosts pushed the lead to double digits for the remainder of the stanza, while taking a 30-19 lead headed into the break.

The second half was all Cowboys. Once again exploding to open the frame, this time the first 11 within 90 seconds to make it 41-19 including 3 straight three pointers. The rest of the half was a dominating team effort by the Cowboys outscoring them 50-25 with SW getting major contributions from the entire team.

Northwest was lead by Hampton Billips with 17. Southwest was paced by Terrell Leach with 17, 5 ORebs, 4 Stls, 2 Asts, KJ Langley with 15, 2 Asts. The Cowboys remain perfect on the season at 17-0 and 6-0 in the PTC.

Northwest falls to 14-5 and 4-2 in the PTC. Up next for the unblemished Cowboys is a drive over to Southen Alamance tomorrow night.
