Playing with only six players, River Mill defeated Northwood to take sole posession of 1st place in the Carolina 12 2-A/1-A Conference.

River Mill scored 24 points in a fast-paced first quarter, while Northwood answered with `16 points of their own. River Mill picked up the defensive intensity in the second stanza, and took a 35-19 advantage into intermission.

The second half featured runs by both teams, as the Lady Chargers cut the lead to 10, on two differrent occasions. Each Northwood run was answered however, by a run by the Lady Jaguars.

River MIll coach Hamilton Perkins said, “We knew we had to be totally focused tonight, because we had two players out. Northwood came in with an eight-game winning streak, and they beat a very good Jordan Matthews team last night. I’m very pleased with our effort and with our determination. We had to eat mustard a couple of times to get rid of muscle cramps, but stayed poised and didn’t let it bother us!”

Elon signee Lenaira Ruffin, surpassed the 1500 point and 1500 rebound plateau during the game for River Mill. She also pulled down 23 rebounds, to set a new single-game school record. Shontai Totten scored 15 points for Northwood.
