Wesleyan Christian Academy takes the win over High Point Christian Academy

HIGH POINT– It’s not over until its over.

A back and forth battle was decided in the last minute of the game, as JaQuel Richmond of Wesleyan hit a runner in the lane to put his team ahead. The low scoring 49-46 win for the Spartans was the product of a defensive battle.

For most of the game, the Trojans were trailing High Point Christian, but the fourth quarter was another story. Theo Pinson took over the game for Wesleyan, scoring a pivotal 4 points at the beginning of the 4th quarter to jump-start his team. He finished leading all scorers with 20 points.

The two teams went blow for blow with Diante Baldwin leading the charge for Cougars, finishing with 10 points. The defense of the Cougars pressured Wesleyan into tough shots through most of the game, playing at a slower pace that was reflected in the final score.

The Cougars looked unaffected by the hostile environment caused by the student section of Wesleyan. High Point Christian waited for their shots, while Wesleyan looked rushed at times.

Late in the game, Wesleyan was able to calm down and hit two crucial free throws to put their lead at 3. They used their fouls at the end of the game to keep High Point Christian from getting a set play off and the Cougars final shot attempt clanked off the rim.

Wesleyan moves to 17-5 with the win and High Point Christian falls to 17-5.
