Evan Emery shines for HPU Men’s Track and Field at the Armory Collegiate Invitational

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Junior Evan Emery finished third in the 60-meter dash to highlight the High Point University men’s track and field performance at the Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York, N.Y., this weekend.

“I thought we had a lot of guys step up and perform well against talented competition this weekend,” head coachMike Esposito said. “Even looked good and is showing signs of getting back to the times we need him at for the Big South Championships. Our distance guys put in some good times now we just need them to trust their fitness and take a chance.”

Emery finished with a season-best time of 6.93 in the 60-meter finals. The race was a tight one with the top three finishers separated by just two-hundredths of a second. Emery also ran in the 200-meters and turned in the best time by any HPU runner in the event this season, crossing the line in 22.30.

Sophomore Jeff LaCoste continued his strong indoor season with a sixth-place showing in the 3,000-meters, crossing the line with a career-best time of 8:29.46. Freshman Benji Szalai and senior Dakota Peachee also posted top-10 finishes in the event. Szalai finished eighth with a time of 8:30.45 and Peachee finished ninth with a time of 8:31.32. Both times were new career-highs for the Panther runners.

Junior Patrick Crawford competed in the 5,000-meters for High Point and finished in eighth place with a time of 14:44.04. The time was a new career-best in indoor competitions for the junior.

High Point continues its indoor season on Feb. 8 when the team heads to Clemson, S.C., to compete in the Tiger Paw Invitational.
