Macon Smith(Western Guilford HS) makin’ baseball news again for the Guilford College Quakers

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College junior John Macon Smith(Western Guilford High School) collected the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) first Baseball Player Hitter of the Week Award Monday. He was also named the Guilford Student-Athlete by the school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Smith, a 6-2, 200-pound center fielder, went five-for-nine with a homer and three runs batted in (RBI) in the Quakers’ season-opening split with Piedmont (Ga.) College Feb. 2-3. The 2012 Second Team All-ODAC pick started his season by blasting a three-run homer in his first at-bat of Guilford’s 8-4 loss. He finished the day with three hits, a stolen base, one run and three RBI. The following afternoon Smith scored the game-winning run in the 10th inning of Guilford’s 5-4 comeback win. He had two hits on the day and also earned a walk. Through the Quakers’ first two games, Smith is batting a team-leading .556.
