The Greensboro College men’s basketball team (12-8 overall, 6-5 USA South) continued its hot run on Wednesday with a 93-86 road win at North Carolina Wesleyan (14-8 overall, 6-6 USA South). The win marked the fourth in a row for The Pride and the sixth of the past seven.
Greensboro opened up a tight beginning with a 6-0 run to grab a 22-17 lead with 11:57 on the clock. The Bishops would hang around, coming back to tie the game and take a brief 27-25 lead at the 7:58 mark.
However, The Pride rolled off another six unanswered points to go up 31-27 lead with 7:10 left in the half. The spurt continued, as Greensboro extended the advantage to double digits at 42-32 with 3:14 to play.
North Carolina Wesleyan would keep it within striking distance at the break though, pulling to within 44-40.
The Bishops regained the lead in the early minutes of the second half and went by as many as five points before Greensboro rallied to even the game at 65-65 at the midway point.
The lead would bounce back and forth until The Pride ran off 11 straight points to go on top 79-71 with 5:47 left in the game. Greensboro would grow the advantage to 82-73 and would keep North Carolina Wesleyan at arms length for the remainder of the contest.
The Battling Bishops pulled as close as 82-78 with 2:41 remaining but would get no closer than five the rest of the way.
Luqman Tijani poured in a team high 26 points with Damian Dixon adding 19. Both players grabbed seven rebounds apiece. Chakiris Moss also had a solid night with 14 points and six assists, while Brian Thomas chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds.
The Pride connected on 45.9% of their shots from the field and went 10-27 (37.0%) from three. Greensboro was slightly outrebounded 43-41 but forced 17 turnovers while committing only 11.
The Pride would continue their road trip on Friday at Johnson (TN). Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
