Elon Men’s Basketball Closes Out Road Swing Saturday at Furman

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men’s basketball team returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 9, when the Phoenix travels to Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C., to face the Furman Paladins. Tip is scheduled for 4 p.m.

THE SERIES: Saturday marks the 14th all-time meeting between Elon and Furman. The Phoenix leads the series, 9-4, and has won four of the last six meetings. In games played away from Alumni Gym, Elon is 3-2 against Furman.

LAST MEETING: Josh Bonney provided a spark off the bench to lift the Phoenix to a 73-59 win over the Paladins inside Alumni Gym on Jan. 17. Bonney scored a season-high 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting to lead the Elon charge.

BLOCK PARTY: Lucas Troutman needs three blocks to set Elon’s all-time record currently held by Eric Hairston. Troutman currently has 140 career blocks in his career after tallying six against Samford on Feb. 2.

MID-MAJOR TOP 25: The Phoenix entered the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 this week, coming in at No. 25. Elon joins Davidson as the only other team in the Southern Conference in the Mid-Major Top 25.

LOOKING BACK: Elon scored a season-low in a 60-50 setback at Wofford on Feb. 7. The Phoenix shot 37 percent from the field and 42 percent at the free throw line against the Terriers. The loss ended the team’s seven-game winning streak.

LOOKING AHEAD: Following Saturday’s game at Furman, the Phoenix returns home for a Valentine’s Day tilt with instate rival Appalachian State on Feb. 14 at Alumni Gym.
