GC Baseball Drops Home Opener to Piedmont 3-1

The Greensboro College baseball team (2-1, 0-1 USA South) suffered its first loss of the season on Friday night, falling to Piedmont College (2-1, 1-0 USA South) 3-1. The Pride entered the game on a two game winning streak but were unable to rally from an early deficit in this one.

The Lions struck first by scoring one run in the fourth and fifth innings. The Pride would answer by scoring one run in the sixth.

Seth Caison would start the inning off with a single to center field and reached second on a stolen base. Caison would move over to third on a ground out by Steven Pfeiffer before Austin Catherina singled him home to make the score 2-1.

Greensboro would load the bases later in the inning but were unable to put anymore runs on the board.

Piedmont would score the final run of the game in the seventh on a single up the middle to makethe final score 3-1.

Bill Wooding led The Pride with three hits. Also contributing with one hit apiece were Caison and Catherina.

John Atkins started the game, going five innings and allowing two runs on five hits. Hunter Jenkins pitched four strong innings in relief, allowing one run on three hits.

The Pride will look to take game two of the three game series against Piedmont tomorrow. The game iss cheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. at Leonard Park.
