GC Baseball Takes Series Finale From Piedmont 5-2

The Pride baseball team (3-2 overall, 1-2 USA South) earned a 5-2 victory over Piedmont (3-2 overall, 2-1 USA South) in a USA South series finale on Sunday afternoon at home.

Greensboro grabbed an early 2-0 lead after the first inning of play. Seth Caison doubled home Matt Irwin for the game’s first run and scored himself on an RBI double by James Feldmann.

The Lions reached the scoreboard with a single run in the top of the second before The Pride responded in the bottom of the frame. A sacrifice fly by Irwin brought home Joshua Powell to extend the lead to 3-1.

After Piedmont narrowed the margin to 3-2 with a run in the fourth, Greensboro added cushion with two runs in the sixth. Steven Pfeiffer crossed the plate first on a fielder’s choice by Bill Wooding. Wooding was knocked in later in the inning on a single by Jon Krecicki.

Austin Hardin and Brian Robbett combined on the mound to keep the Lions off the board and close out the victory.

The Pride outhit Piedmont on the day 7-6 with Caison posting a team high three hits in four at-bats. Feldmann, Pfeiffer, Powell and Krecicki also added hits.

Harrison Hall earned the win with 5.0 solid innings of two hit ball. Hall gave up one earned run. Robbett picked up his second save of the year with a scoreless ninth inning.

Matt Lisk suffered the defeat for the Lions in 6.0 innings of work. Lisk squared off with his brother and Pride third baseman J.P. Lisk. J.P Lisk went 0-2 at the plate against his brother, including a hard hit, line drive out to right field.

Greensboro will host Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday at Leonard Park. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
