GC Baseball Downs Hampden-Sydney 6-3

The Pride baseball team (4-2) defeated Hampden-Sydney (2-5) 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon. Greensboro used a three run, four hit first inning to propel them to the victory.

Greensboro would strike first with three in the opening inning. Matt Irwin started the game off with a double to left field. Seth Caison scored him on an RBI double to left field. James Feldmann followed that up with an RBI single up the middle, plating Caison. Matthew Parker provided the final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Feldmann.

Hampden-Sydney would respond with two runs in the third. However, the Pride would answer back with two in the fourth.

Kyle Schmidt plated the first run with an rbi single bringing in Parker. Bill Wooding then scored on a wild pitch.

The Pride added another run in the fifth on a Steven Pfeiffer single bringing in Feldmann. The Tigers put up the final run of the game in sixth on an RBI single.

Four Pride hitters -Irwin, Feldmann, Pfeiffer, and Parker – finished the game with two hits apiece. The Pride held an 11-8 advantage in hits.

Kris Peeden picked up his first win of the season, going six innings allowing three runs on six hits. Brian Robbett would come in with bases loaded and get the next three outs to earn his third save on the season.

The Pride will be back in action Friday at Ferrum for a three game series. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
