Phoenix Women’s Basketball Travels to Local Rival UNCG Saturday

ELON, N.C. – The Elon women’s basketball team will close out a three-game road swing with a game at local Southern Conference rival UNCG on Saturday, Feb. 16, in the Spartans’ Play 4Kay game. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Fleming Gymnasium.

Last Time Out
The Phoenix dropped its second straight game at Samford on Monday in a 65-59 final. Elon pulled within four of the Bulldogs in the final minute of the game but was not able to complete the comeback. Kelsey Evans scored 21 points, marking her fifth 20+ scoring game of the season. Ali Ford finished with 13 points and four assists, while Zora Stephenson went 3-for-3 from long distance for nine points.

Scouting the Spartans
UNCG nearly knocked off SoCon-leader Chattanooga on Monday after claiming its second win of the conference season the previous game at Samford. The Spartans are 3-8 in Fleming Gym this season but have not won a conference game at home. Lucy Mason is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 13.2 points per game and owns a 36 percent shooting percentage. Janae’ Stevenson brings down the most boards for the blue and gold with 7.5 rebounds a game.

The Series
The Spartans are the leader in the all-time series, 23-18, but the Phoenix has won four of the last five meetings, including the last three. Elon claimed a 71-60 victory earlier this year in Alumni Gym on Jan. 14. Ali Ford scored a game-high 21 points, while Kelsey Harris recorded her first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Cracking the Top 10
After scoring 21 points in Elon’s contest at Samford, Kelsey Evans has moved her way into Elon’s top-10 all-time scoring chart. The senior currently ranks ninth on the list with 1,267 career points.

Looking Ahead
Elon will return home for its first game in Alumni Gym in over two weeks when it hosts Wofford on Wednesday, Feb. 20. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
