Elon’s Griffin, Holt Set Records in Day One at Virginia Tech Challenge

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Elon’s Sydney Griffin and Kimberlyn Holt both set new school records today, Feb. 15, as the Phoenix women’s track and field team competed on day one at the Virginia Tech Challenge. Griffin clocked a time of 8.62 in the 60-meter hurdles while Holt threw a mark of 52’4” (15.97m) in the weight throw inside the Rector Field House.

Griffin entered today’s competition with the program’s second-fastest time in the 60m-hurdles after running a time of 8.73 at the Penn State National on Jan. 26. The Marietta, Ga., native broke the previous six-year mark of 8.67 set by Dominique Price.

Holt’s toss in the weight throw broke Charlise Morgan’s previous mark of 52’01” (15.87m) that she set at the Penn State National on Jan. 26. The Viola, Kan., native finished as the runner-up in the event.

Griffin also made changes to the 200-meter dash record book as she ran a season-best time of 25.05. That mark is now second-fastest all-time at Elon as she finished fifth overall.

Louise Prevoteau finished as the runner-up in the long jump after a season-best mark of 18’4.25” (5.59m), the third-best on the program’s all-time performance list. Simone Jackson broke back into the top-five of the all-time performance list in the 60-meter dash after clocking a qualifying time of 7.89.

The Phoenix conclude action tomorrow at the VT Challenge with the women’s high jump kicking off events at 11 a.m.
