UNCG, with new skipper ‘LJ’ Link Jarrett, begins baseball play today vs. the Army Black Knights, from West Point, New York and Army comes in to face the Spartans at 4pm today(Friday), at the Spartan Baseball Stadium on the UNCG campus….The Black Knights are in town and they should be bringing IF Justin Reece(Southeast Guilford) back our way, as the freshman would be back in his home city and he would be set to see another local product, Ray Crawford, at second base for the UNCG Spartans……Ray will be a UNCG sophomore and he saw considerable action as a Spartan freshman at third base and he had some pop and power in his bat, back in 2012…..Also on our locals list the Spartans have Nin Marrero INF/OF from Western Guilford HS, plus OF Zac MacAneney out of Western Alamance High School….

*****We WELCOME the Army Black Knights to the city and they were here previously, back when Clint Moore(Grimsley HS) was a field-general at shortstop for Army, during what was probably Clint’s junior year…Army also met Wake Forest on a Saturday, after passing through UNCG that Friday back in say, 2010….*****

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG baseball team begins its 2013 season (TODAY) Friday, Feb. 15 as it hosts defending Patriot League champion and 2012 NCAA regional qualifier Army for a three-game series at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.

Friday’s game will begin at 4 p.m. while Saturday’s first pitch is set for 2 p.m. and Sunday’s start time is scheduled for noon.

For the first time in program history, the UNCG baseball team will open a new year under new leadership as Link Jarrett enters his first season as a collegiate head coach. The Spartans look to improve upon a 2012 campaign in which they compiled a 25-27 record and missed qualification for the Southern Conference Championship after posting a 10-20 league ledger.
