BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Elon women’s track and field team concluded competition Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Virginia Tech Challenge inside the Rector Field House.

“This weekend went really well,” said Phoenix head coach Mark Elliston. “We broke a couple of school records and had several athletes achieve some of their best performances of the season.”

Megan Kirschling cleared the bar at 5’7” (1.70m) to finish second overall in the high jump. It is the fourth time this season that Kirschling finished among the top two in the event.

Charlise Morgan had a toss of 45’2.25” (13.77m) in her final attempt in the shot put and finished second overall. Teammate Kimberlyn Holt joined Morgan in the top-10 with a throw of 38”7.75” (11.78m).

Veronica Luedke and Jennifer Pash were the top finishers in the 400-meter race with the pair crossing the line in 11th and 12th place and times of 58.82 and 58.94, respectively.

Janell McNeil had a mark of 36’7.5” (11.16m) in the triple jump and finished in sixth place. Teammate Marie Borowycz was eighth with a mark of 36’0” (10.97m).

The Phoenix will compete in the 2013 Southern Conference Indoor Championships next weekend, Feb. 23-24, in Winston Salem, N.C. The meet will be held at the JDL Fast Track Complex where Elon competed and won the Wake Forest Invitational on Jan. 19.

“We’re very excited about competing at the SoCon championships,” said Elliston. “We’re going to come together during practice this week and sharpen up on some techniques and look forward to a very exciting conference meet.”
