HPU Men’s Golf Loses Weather-Shortened Match Play Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The High Point University men’s golf team lost a weather-shortened match play event to UNC Greensboro this weekend. The inaugural Carolina Cup was held at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro. The event was originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday but was trimmed to one day due to weather. High Point lost to the Spartans, 5-2.

The teams got through nine holes on Saturday before snow ended the day. Play was unable to be resumed on Sunday.

“Despite the weather, Charles Valluzzo had total control of his game and played under par,” said head coach Greg Flescher. “Brian Sullivan battled back after going down early. We would have loved to play the second day but we look forward to this event again next year.”

Sophomore Charles Valluzzo and senior Brian Sullivan posted wins in the event. Valluzzo posted a 5-up victory over UNCG’s Matt Younts. Sullivan earned a 1-up win over Wilson Brown.

Freshman Tommy Dillon lost by one hole to Luke Haithcock and senior Chase Wilson took a two-hole loss at the hands of Robert Hoadlay.

The Panthers return to action on March 4 and 5 at the College of Charleston Invitational in Charleston, S.C.
