HPU Men’s Track & Field Competes in the JDL Championship Tune-up

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The High Point University men’s track and field team competed at the JDL Fast Track Championship tune-up on Saturday, its final competition before the Big South Indoor Championships. Freshman Harris Coley picked up a win in the pole vault to lead the Panthers on the day.

Coley cleared a height of 4.17 meters (13-8.25) to pick up the win. The height was a new career-high for the freshman and it was the first time he cleared 4.0 meters in a collegiate competition.

Sophomore Christian Spaulding also posted the top-three finish with a third-place showing in the weight throw. Spaulding posted a throw of 14.32 meters (46-11.75) on his first throw to finish in third.

On the track, junior Ryan Venable finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdle finals with a time of 8.49. Freshman Cody Seymour finished in eighth in the 3,000-meters with a career-best time of 8:54.08 while sophomore Chris Colo crossed the line in ninth with a career-best time of 9:03.79. Freshman Jeremy Lewis finished in 12th in the 800-meters with a career-best time of 2:03.50.

High Point will next take part in the 2013 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships beginning on Thursday, Feb. 21. The two-day competition will be held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
