Lauren Blackwell Paces HPU Women’s Track & Field at the JDL Championship Tune-up

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The High Point University women’s track and field team had the top two finishers in the 3,000-meter run on Saturday at the JDL Fast Track Tune-up in Winston-Salem, N.C. Sophomore Lauren Blackwell finished first and junior Kayleigh Perry finished second in the distance race.

Blackwell, who set an HPU record in the 5,000-meters earlier this season, finished with a career-best time of 10:25.78. Perry finished in second in the race with a season-best time of 10:36.13. Two other HPU runners finished in the top 10 as freshman Julia Zautcke finished fourth with a career-best time of 10:40.07 and freshman Erika Peoples finished seventh with a career-best time of 10:46.29.

Sophomore Colleen Hollowood posted a top-10 finish in the 800-meters, finishing in sixth with a season-best time of 2:20.92.

Junior Audrey Malloy finished eighth in the mile run with a season-best time of 5:26.94 and was followed closely by freshman Lindsey Siska who crossed the line in ninth with a career-best time of 5:28.24.

Freshman Olivia Orrill finished fourth in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.45 meters (4-9).

High Point will take part in the 2013 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships beginning on Thursday, Feb. 21. The two-day competition will be held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
