FOREST, Va. — Four ties had to be broken to determine the pairings for the 2013 ODAC Men’s Basketball Tournament. That included a determination for the event’s top seed as Virginia Wesleyan College received top billing over Hampden-Sydney College thanks to its head-to-head win over the Tigers in regular season play.

Head-to-head action wasn’t enough to separate Randolph College and Randolph-Macon College, as that required the conference’s second step of tie-breakers. The Yellow Jackets will play out of the third position, while the WildCats own the fourth seed as they go in search of a third straight title game appearance. Both R-MC and Randolph join VWC and H-SC in receiving byes through the first round into the quarterfinals.

Lynchburg College and Guilford College are two of the four schools that will play host to first round games on Tuesday, February 19. It took head-to-head tiebreakers to set the Hornets ahead of the Quakers as the fifth and sixth seeds, respectively. The other two first round hosts, seventh seeded Bridgewater College and eighth seeded Washington and Lee University, also used regular season results to split their tie.

Roanoke College’s last-second victory over Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday night locked up the 10th seed and a trip to BC for the Maroons. EMU owns the ninth seed outright and will travel down I-81 to W&L. Emory & Henry College occupies the 11th position, which sends the Wasps to Guilford. The newest ODAC program, Shenandoah University, enters its first ODAC tournament as the #12 seed and will travel to Lynchburg for its first round contest.

Tournament play begins on Tuesday, February 19, with four first round contests at the previously mentioned 5-8 seeds. The winners of those four games will join the top four seeds in Salem at the Salem Civic Center for the quarterfinals on Friday, February 22. Semifinals will be on Saturday, February 23, followed by the championship game on Sunday, February 24.
