EMU Earns Top Seed, GC Defends from Second Seed
FOREST, Va. — The last date of the ODAC women’s basketball regular season has been a big moving day in terms of tournament seeds over the past few years, and Saturday was no different. Eastern Mennonite University put the caps on a 15-1 conference slate to earn the #1 seed and a first round bye into next week’s ODAC Women’s Basketball Tournament.
Defending champion Guilford College will play out of the second slot, while Virginia Wesleyan College owns the third seed ahead of Bridgewater College as the fourth seed. All three teams join EMU in earning byes through Monday’s set of first round contests.
Lynchburg College will host one of those first round games as the fifth seeded Hornets welcome cross-town rival, #12 Randolph College, to Turner Gymnasium. The newest Hornets, those from Shenandoah University, earned the sixth seed and will host Hollins University.
Hollins was involved in a three-way tie that saw Emory & Henry College come out with the ninth seed, while Randolph-Macon College completes the tied triumvirate and will play out of the 10th seed.
The seventh and eighth seeds were also determined by tie-breakers. Roanoke College will play as the seventh seed and host Randolph-Macon as the Maroons came out on top of Washington and Lee University via league tie-breakers. The Generals, as the eighth seed, open the doors of the Warner Center to Emory & Henry in the first round.
Tournament play begins on Monday, February 18, with four first round contests at the previously mentioned 5-8 seeds. The winners of those four contests will join the top four seeds in Salem at the Salem Civic Center for the quarterfinals on Thursday, February 21. Semifinals will be on Saturday, February 23, followed by the championship game on Sunday, February 24.
