Piedmont Triad 4A Conference: Game Report – Glenn vs Southwest Guilford Varsity Boys Basketball

In the semi-finals of the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference, the Bobcats of Glenn High School faced off against the top-seeded Cowboys of Southwest. Glenn earned a spot in this game with an upset of the #4 seed Ragsdale, while the Cowboys came off a first round bye. Can the Cowboys perfect year continue?

he Game was delayed as the earlier Semi-Final on the night went to triple overtime with the Bison of HPC winning the ugly contest. The ugly must have seeped into the opening frame as it was a back and forth battle that Glenn had a slight upper hand for the first 8 minutes, and after the frame ended the Bobcats held a slim 13-11 lead.

The second quarter opened with a Bobcat basket, but the Cowboys decided to show up for a quick spurt to take the lead 16-15 at he 6:45 mark, and never relinquished it. By the 4:29 mark the Cowboys held control and were up 25-20. The energetic and swarming defense of the Cowboys caused several turnovers in a row and was able to the lead to 38-27 at the break.

The second half started with some more back and forth, including a 6-0 run by the visitors to get the lead under 10 for the only time of the second half. Some more pressure defense caused more steals and easy baskets, including several break away dunks with the highlight of the night being a beautiful 360 by Terrell Leach that pushed the lead to 49-35 at the 4:28 mark. At the end of the frame the margin was pushed out to 59-43.

The final stanza was fairly sloppy as the Bobcats bench tried to keep it respectable against the Cowboys bench, but in the end, the Cowboys were too much in their 25th straight victory.

Glenn was lead by Daquan Clemons with 14 points.

Southwest was led by Terrell Leach (19, 8 Reb), Ben Ferguson (14, 5 Reb), and Andrew Bullock (13, 2 Reb, 2 Stl, 2 Ast).
