Elon Phoenix Women’s Basketball Hits Road to Face Paladins

ELON, N.C. – The Elon women’s basketball team (14-11, 11-5) will take on the Furman Paladins (6-10, 10-15) in a Southern Conference road test on Saturday, Feb. 22, in Greenville, S.C. Tip is set for 2 p.m. in Timmons Arena.

Last Time Out
The Phoenix survived a tight game against Wofford on Wednesday, claiming a 62-58 win. Elon trailed by one with under a minute to play, but a defensive rebound by Kelsey Evans set up a jumper by Kelsey Harris after an assist by Ali Ford to put the maroon and gold on top. Harris and Evans made free throws in the final seconds to preserve the win. Evans finished with a game-high 21 points and Harris posted a new-career high of 18 points.

Scouting the Paladins
Furman is coming off a one-point loss (60-59) at UNCG on Monday and has lost its last three games. Prior to its current losing skid, the Paladins had won four of its last five games, including victories over College of Charleston and Samford. Furman returns home for the first time since Feb. 4 when it hosts the Phoenix on Saturday. Teshia Griswold is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 12.8 points per game, while Brittany Hodges hauls down 6.6 rebounds per game. Hodges was a preseason All-SoCon selection and has posted 31 blocks this season (1.3/game)

The Series
Elon is the leader in the series against Furman, 13-8, with the Phoenix taking the win in the seven of the last eight contests. The two teams met on Jan. 18 of this year in Alumni Gym where Elon claimed a 79-69 win after five players scored in double figures (Ali Ford, Kelsey Evans, Kelsey Harris, Candice Silas and Sam Coffer). Ford finished with a game-high 21 points as the team shot 48 percent from the field and extended its win streak to five games.

Double Figures x100
Ali Ford posted 11 points in Elon’s win over Wofford on Feb. 20, marking her 100th career game in double figures. Her scoring in that game also increased her career point total to 1,900.

Looking Ahead
Elon will return to Alumni Gym on Monday, Feb. 25, for the first of its final two home games. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
