GC Men’s Basketball Defeats LaGrange in USA South Tournament First Round

The #3 seed Greensboro men’s basketball team defeated #6 seed LaGrange 88-83 in the first round of the USA South Tournament on Thursday night.

The Pride led for all but 35 seconds of the game and never trailed after the 16:38 mark in the first half. Greensboro took a 42-33 lead into halftime but saw LaGrange battle back in the second half after trailing by as many as 16.

Sparked by a strong defensive effort that forced 26 turnovers and by the clutch three-point shooting of Devonta Davis, The Pride held off a pair of rallies late to pull out the 88-83 victory.

Luqman Tijani led the way with 20 points. Damian Dixon and Davis each added 17 points, and Chakiris Moss chipped inwith 14. Dixon grabbed a team high six rebounds, with Moss and Dixon dishing out a game best four assists.

Overall, Greensboro shot 44% from the field and went 10-24 from beyond the arc. Davis contributed four treys on nine attempts for The Pride.

Greensboro will face off with the #2 seed Ferrum in the USA South Tournament Semifinals. The tipoff is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. at the Crown Center Arena in Fayetteville, N.C.
